Amaray enter Peterborough Dragon Boat race to support local charities

08 April 2016

On Saturday 11th June volunteers from our Corby factory will be competing in the Peterborough Dragon Boat race to raise money for the Sue Ryder Foundation. Dragon boat racing is an ancient Chinese tradition and the fastest growing water activity in Britain today.

On the day, up to 10 employees will paddle a 30ft boat 200 metres along the river with a drummer at the front beating time and setting pace. With 3-4 races scheduled, the team will get together for some physical and co-ordination training prior to the event to ensure they can paddle in a straight line and not just a circle!

A great charity, the Sue Ryder Foundation provides incredible hospice and neurological care for people facing a frightening, life-changing diagnosis. Our entry donation will provide enough funding for a week of hospice nurse care.

In addition, some employees are seeking independent sponsorship for Lakelands Hospice based in Corby a charity committed to providing the best possible practice and development of specialist palliative care for people with cancer, heart failure and other life-limiting illnesses.

Neil Pentecost, Marketing Manager, said “Irrespective of our result and performance on the day, we are delighted to be raising funds for such worthwhile foundations.”
