There are many companies that claim 100% recyclability, but often it is completely uneconomical and impractical to sort the different components from one another. However, Amaray's media packaging is 100% recyclable, and easy to recycle. As the case is made from one material (including the inlay film) it can be ground down and is ready to be recycled. We use Polypropylene (PP) which is a much greener option to the alternative, Polystyrene (PS). PP creates only about half the amount of CO2 compared to PS. Also PP is used in millions of applications worldwide, which makes it even easier to recycle into something else, like a car part. Unlike Cardboard and many other materials PP can be recycled infinitely without seriously depreciating its quality. Which is why an Amaray case is far too valuable to send to landfill?
WRAP (the UK government body) and the Green Alliance take the approach of focusing on what they call the 3 R's:
Reduce
Amaray have developed the new BioBox which Biodegrades 100 times faster than a standard DVD case, reducing the volume of waste in landfill faster. We have also reduced the amount of plastic by 30% in our standard Amaray DVD since its launch in 1997. This not only uses less plastic but also reduces fuel consumption during transportation. Our RedTag system has significantly reduced the waste produced by retailers using disposable security systems in their stores. It is also far lighter, reducing fuel consumption.
Reuse
Our RedTag security system is a far more environmentally friendly option to its alternatives and can be reused by retailers an infinite number of times, which over times, saves a lot of money, materials, and CO2 emissions. We do not manufacture disposable products and our cases are used for the full life of the product which they protect.
Recycle
All of our boxes are 100% recyclable and simple to recycle too, being clearly marked with the appropriate recycling symbols. As our products are made from one material they are simply ground up, redistributed and reformed. They can be recycled over and over again with no loss in quality of the product. Also, Amaray can use recycled PP in our products. More importantly Red Tag means that this recycling is kept easy as source tagged security or RFID labels stop easy recycling and need removal. Red avoids this as the security label or RFID is held on the reusable Red Tag.
